Guest Speaker:  Asha Persaud, Executive Director of

“The HOPE Learning Center”

Asha Persaud earned dual bachelor degrees from The Pennsylvanie State University in Psychology and Spanish and a Masters of Science in School Psychology from Duquesne University.  Ms. Persaud completed coursework in Behavior Analysis at The Pennsylvania State University.

With over 15 years of research experience, Ms. Persaud has trained extensively in diagnostic assessments and behavioral interventions.  Ms. Persaud was the Research Coordinator for the Center for Excellence in Autism Research at the University of Pittsburgh.  She was responsible for administrating the Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) and coordinating a research project on language processing in individuals with autism.

Ms. Persaud has several years of experience as a TSS, BSC, and Regional Director of a wraparound agency, specializing in autism spectrum disorders.  As an educational consultant for several school districts, Ms. Persaud has given presentations and trained teachers and paraprofessionals on inclusion strategies in the regular education classroom and assisted in the development of behavior plans.

Guest:  Dr. Noah Erickson, D.C., Med. Ac will lead us in a “Group Lab Discussion”

Dr. Noah Erickson, D.C., Med.Ac. is the founder and clinical director of Innovative Family Wellness and Dr. Noah”s ARC – Autism Recovery Center in Boardman Ohio.  He is a graduate of California University of Pennsylvania with a Bachelor’s Degree in Athletic Training and Logan College of Chiropractic with a Bachelor’s degree in Human Biology and a Doctor of Chiropractic degree.  Dr. Erickson is licensed as a Medical Acupuncturist through the International Academy of Medical Acupuncture.   In addition to chiropractic and acupuncture, Dr. Erickson has had advanced study and training in integrative medicine as well as in laboratory and genetically-based nutrition.  This background qualifies him to address health problems using customized dietary protocols and the highest quality nutritional supplements based on specialized lab work and genetic testing.  Dr. Erickson is one of the few practitioners in the country who specializes in Nutrigenomics: A biomedical, genetically-based treatment of autism, ADD, ADHD and related disorders.

Kate Schnieder, born and raised in the south hills of Pittsburgh, is a board certified music therapist. Kate earned her BFA in Music attending Baldwin Wallace University. Upon graduation in May 2012 she traveled to upstate New York to complete a six-month music therapy internship at the Center for Discovery, a facility for children and adults with different disabilities. Once the internship was complete, she was eligible to take the music therapy board certification test. As a music therapist Kate is passionate about the unique ways each child learns and connects with music.  Since her freshman year of undergrad Kate has had the opportunity to work with a variety of people through music. She has worked in nursing homes, hospice centers, rehabilitation programs, schools, camps and specialized education programs.

Patricia S. Lemer is a Licensed Professional Counselor, and practiced as an educational diagnostician for over 40 years. She was a co-founder and served as Executive Director of Developmental Delay Resources (DDR), an international, non-profit organization for 20 years. DDR merged with Epidemic Answers in 2013, and Ms. Lemer serves as Board Chair. Ms. Lemer lectures internationally on developmental delays, including autism spectrum disorders.  She is the author of EnVISIONing a Bright Future:  Interventions that Work for Children and Adults with Autism Spectrum Disorders, and Outsmarting Autism, to be published summer, 2014.  Ms. Lemer lives in Pittsburgh, PA and is the mother of an adult daughter and the grandmother of Penelope, born in August, 2006.
